Aaron Rodgers to star in upcoming Netflix docuseries after recovering from Achilles tendon injury

Just hours before Aaron Rodgers returns to the football field for his 2024 season debut with the New York Jets, Netflix has announced that the New York Jets quarterback will be the subject of a three-part documentary series on the streaming platform.

“Aaron Rodgers: Enigma” premieres on Dec. 17, a little over a week before Netflix streams the first two NFL games on Christmas Day. The three-part series follows Rodgers as he attempts to return from a torn Achilles injury he suffered in last season’s Week 1 opener.

Rodgers and the Jets open their season with a Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers.

A clip released by Netflix gives a taste of what to expect. Rodgers explains what it’s like to play quarterback in the NFL. He also discusses the mindset of elite athletes recovering from serious injuries: the belief that normal expectations and timetables don’t apply to their bodies.

Rodgers, however, chose to be more philosophical and even spiritual about his recovery from injury.

“Listen, I believe in the power of prayer and intention,” he explained. “From the first night that this happened, hours afterward, I was surrounded by a group of really special people in my life and we just prayed a lot.”

The docuseries, directed by Gotham Chopra and Liam Hughes, is produced by Religion of Sports, which has previously worked on documentaries about athletes such as Kobe Bryant, Serena Williams, Tom Brady, Shohei Ohtani and Draymond Green.

In addition to the Rodgers project, Netflix also announced a third season of the golf documentary series “Full Swing” and more documentaries in its “Untold” series, which recently highlighted stories about late NFL quarterback Steve McNair, star football player Hope Solo and controversial former Michigan State forward Connor Stallions.

The documentaries are part of Netflix’s ongoing push into sports content, which includes the Formula 1 docuseries “Drive to Survive,” two upcoming series about the Boston Red Sox and live programming such as the November 15 boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
