Aaron Ramsdale: Wolves move for Arsenal goalkeeper fails

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers has fallen through.

The deal for the 26-year-old has proven too expensive for the West Midlands club and is considered complete, BBC Sport understands.

Ramsdale is hoping for first-team football after losing his place to David Raya and could still leave Emirates Stadium before Friday’s transfer deadline, but a move to Molineux is unlikely to be on the cards again.

Wolves made a loan offer with an option to buy for around £20m last week and were still in negotiations with Arsenal over the weekend.

Ramsdale, who has five England caps to his name, joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in 2021 for a fee of £24million. He has two years left on his contract.

Wolves’ finances are tight despite raising almost £100m this summer with the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman.

Manager Gary O’Neil warned after Sunday’s 6-2 home defeat to Chelsea that the club needed to feel comfortable with the transfer window once it closed.

“If it closes, we have to be happy with where we are,” he said.

“There is a lot of work for me and I have to get more out of the group we have. Then there is also the realisation that the Premier League is tough and if you sell good players you become weaker.”

Their £20million bid for Burnley winger Luca Koleosho was rejected last week and that deal is also unlikely to go ahead.
