Aaron Boone subtly slams Red Sox for Alex Cora’s comments about pitching to Aaron Judge

MLB has launched a brief investigation into recent comments made by Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who suggested that pitcher Brayan Bello may have intentionally thrown at (or behind) New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge during their game last weekend.

Ultimately, MLB decided not to punish Cora and the Red Sox for the incident that occurred on September 14.

When asked if Cora had gone unpunished, Yankees captain Aaron Boone indicated that he had moved on from the incident and was looking to the future. However, he did not hesitate to subtly insult his team’s archrivals.

“I feel like we’re done this weekend. There’s a good chance we won’t play them again this year. We’ve got too many important things to do to really focus on that,” Boone said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

As it stands, Boston is out of the wild-card race, four games behind the Minnesota Twins for the final postseason seed in the American League. Meanwhile, the Yankees hold a three-game lead atop the AL East. Boone made it clear that New York is focused solely on competing for a World Series, rather than feuding with a team that likely won’t play in October at all.

In the game that sparked the feud, Gerrit Cole hit Rafael Devers with a pitch in the first inning before intentionally walking the Red Sox slugger during his next at-bat. That, Cora felt, was a sign that Cole hit Devers on purpose to prevent him from throwing to him. In the sixth inning of the same game, Bello threw a pitch that went behind Judge. MLB investigated Cora’s postgame comments, which suggested Bello’s actions were intentional, but ultimately concluded there was no misconduct.
