The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers in game 5 of the American League Division Series to advance to the American League Championship Series.

Monday marks Game 1 of the series, which pits the American League Central champion Guardians against the American League East champion New York Yankees.

Most people know about Yankees star players Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, but the Guardians have their own superstar who gets less attention.

However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone disagrees that Jose Ramirez is underrated and underappreciated.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Boone said, “He’s a great Hall of Fame player on the circuit, and everyone knows it, including everyone sitting here.

Ramirez entered the league in 2013 with the then-Cleveland Indians and has been with the team ever since.

He had another great season for the Guardians in 2024, hitting .279 with 39 home runs, 118 runs batted in and an .872 on-base plus slugging percentage.

His first series in the 2024 playoffs wasn’t great, however, as he had 3 hits in 16 at-bats with 1 home run, 3 runs batted in, and a .788 on-base plus slugging percentage.

Boone describes being tired of hearing baseball analysts say Ramirez is underrated, and mentions that the Yankees are aware of how good he is.

The Yankees may want to be cautious when pitching against Ramirez in the ALCS, as he is the clear player in the Guardians’ lineup who can do the most damage.

Ramirez will look to get his postseason back on track as Game 1 of the ALCS begins Monday.
