A new milestone confirms Jannik Sinner’s great season

The season of Jannik Sinner was marked by many beautiful moments. The young Italian has definitely become a top player, he won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year and won his second Masters 1000 in Miami in the spring.

The 23-year-old from San Candido rightfully occupies the first position on the ATP rankings, even though his great rival Carlos Alcaraz has won the last two Majors (the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships). In the last two months, the Italian player had some physical problems and did not achieve the desired results. The 2024 Australian Open champion had to skip the Olympic Games in Paris due to tonsillitis, a decision that caused a lot of controversy in his country.

Sinner was not in top form last week in Montreal and was knocked out by Andrei Rublev in the quarter finals. Jannik gets a chance to take revenge in Cincinnati today, but he has to watch out for the Russian who is now playing well again.

After struggling to make his debut against young American Alex Michelsen, the Italian was not required to play in the round of 16 due to Jordan Thompson’s withdrawal with a rib injury. The world number 1 must play as many matches as possible to reach the top of his class at the US Open, which starts in New York in less than ten days.

Despite the small setback in the last two months, Jannik Sinner is playing an exceptional 2024. Jannik Sinner has updated his 2024 record: in the eleven tournaments played so far in the ATP tour, the Italian tennis player has reached at least the quarterfinals in all events. No other tennis player has managed to achieve such records this year. The data that confirm the enormous performance of the Italian are also the victories, 44, and the only 5 defeats so far.

The victory at the Australian Open (his first Slam of his career), the victory at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, the semi-final in Indian Wells, the success at the Master 1000 in Miami, the semi-final in Monte Carlo, the quarter-final in Madrid (dropping out without entering the court), the semi-final at Roland Garros, the title won at the ‘500’ in Halle, the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, at the Canada Open in Montreal and now also in Cincinnati, with the chance to do better if he could beat Andrey Rublev. These are, in detail, the results of the 23-year-old from San Candido this year, conditioned however by some physical problems that prevented him from achieving more victories.

Inevitably, the Italian ace’s goal before the end of 2024 has changed to defending the world number one, taken by force 10 weeks ago, against possible attacks from rivals. The main opponent is Carlos Alcaraz, winner in both Paris and London on grass: the two will probably fight until the Nitto ATP Finals to determine who is the best to earn the top of the rankings at the end of the year. The US Open can make the difference for the 2000 points they are giving away: that is why they both strive to experience the best conditions in New York.

The Italian ace has a great attitude

During a recent interview with the official ATP website, ATP ace Jack Draper praised Sinner’s attitude: “He’s such a good player, but more importantly, an incredible human being. He’s very genuine, funny, and that’s why we wanted to play together. I think we’re good friends. We always say hi to each other.

We always support each other, regardless of the results. It’s nice to have that camaraderie and stuff, and although hopefully we’ll be close rivals. He’s someone I have a huge amount of respect for, and I think he’s doing an incredible job in the game. He’s one of those guys who shows us the way. So to play with him was a real honour, and to play with the world number one was great too.”

The Cincinnati Masters 1000 has so far produced some big surprises. Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has reached the quarterfinals and will try to take revenge on Andrey Rublev, who won it in Montreal, in a few hours. What is certain is that Jannik has secured the number one position in the rankings, the Italian tennis player will remain at the top for another seven weeks thanks to the surprising knockout of Alcaraz, who was defeated by Gael Monfils. The Spaniard proved to be a human being, played badly and experienced an outburst of rage that led him to destroy his racket.

The former tennis player Diego Nargiso spoke before the microphones of ‘Libero’ and commented on the moment of Sinner: “We know Jannik well, some of his choices may seem unpopular but if he didn’t go to Paris, it’s because he was clearly not good. We’re talking about a 23-year-old boy who has already won a Grand Slam, a 1000 and a Davis Cup and has been number one in the world for ten weeks.”
