A Mississippi man is behind bars after an attempted chainsaw attack, leading police on a multi-county chase

Police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a man who attacked a woman and he led them on a chase in Mississippi.

He tried to attack someone and then led the police on a chase.

Police officers witness some pretty bizarre things while on duty. This often happens when they stop people for a traffic stop, but there are also several other crazy situations. Recently, the police were called to a car theft, and the suspect led them on a high-speed chase. However, this is not where the story begins.

This man committed car theft and tried to evade a traffic stop

Unfortunately, failing to comply with a traffic stop isn’t the worst part of this story. According to WAPT, a woman from Jackson, Mississippi, called the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department around 3:15 a.m. on November 11. During her call, she asked a police officer to stand by while she collected some of her belongings following a domestic dispute.

However, matters got worse when she called back and said that Jason Salter, the suspect, had tried to attack her with a chainsaw. Moreover, he committed car theft by taking her Toyota Camry and speeding. Later, an officer spotted the stolen Toyota and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Jason refused to stop and the police officer pursued the vehicle.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department later placed spike marks and surrounded the sedan to conduct the traffic stop. The car crashed at some point and reportedly overturned. According to the report: “After the crash, the suspect resisted and attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended following the deployment of a Taser.”

They treated Jason at the scene and then took him to jail. His charges include aggravated domestic violence, carjacking, and fleeing and eluding.
