LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln man was arrested Thursday after assaulting a police officer while violating a protective order, according to Lincoln police.

Officers responded to a call for violation of a protective order near West Loring Street and Northwest 50th Street in Air Park around 10:30 a.m. When officers tried to talk to 37-year-old Mynsraim Encalada-Cruz, he ignored commands and appeared intoxicated, police said.

When a sergeant tried to take him into custody, Encalada-Cruz allegedly resisted, causing both to fall to the street. During the struggle, the sergeant’s body-worn camera and handcuffs fell to the ground, and Encalada-Cruz broke free and fled. Officers later found him in a nearby ditch, where he was arrested. Police reported that during the chase he found a bag of marijuana that he had discarded in his sweatshirt.

The sergeant suffered injuries to his elbows, hands and knees during the altercation.

Encalada-Cruz was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and three counts of violation of protective order.
