A Cork woman has had her conviction suspended for dangerous driving causing the death of a driving assistant

The sentencing of a 46-year-old woman for dangerous driving in Glanmire, which resulted in the death of a special needs assistant last February, was postponed on Tuesday until November 26.

Jennifer Thomas of 10 Oakfield View, Glanmire, Cork, previously pleaded guilty to a charge that on February 11 at L2973, Sarsfield Court, Glanmire, she drove in a manner dangerous to the public causing the death of another person , namely Sheila. Dunne, who was then 50 years old.

Mrs Dunne was an assistant at Watergrasshill NS.

A trial report was available Tuesday, but the parties agreed that sentencing should be postponed for a week.

Defense attorney Paula McCarthy said the defense was seeking a full pathologist’s report, as opposed to the one-page document detailing the cause of death.

Prosecutor Emmet Boyle said the defense already has what the prosecution has in the way of documentary evidence. Judge Helen Boyle said she wanted the parties to settle the matter between themselves as she did not want it to become an issue at next week’s sentencing hearing.

The Public Prosecution Service previously indicated that victim statements from the family of the late Sheila Dunne had already been drawn up.

Detective Garda Mark Durcan said earlier, when the suspect first appeared before Cork District Court in connection with the case, that when she was charged with dangerous driving causing death and other charges, she did not answer.

Summary of costs

Other charges, including one charge of drink-driving and three charges of dangerous driving, remain in the district court as they are considered summary charges. Therefore, the evidence book only contains the single charge of dangerous driving resulting in death.

The summary charge consists of allegations that she was under the influence of an intoxicant to such an extent that she was unable to maintain proper control of the vehicle at Sarsfield Court, dangerous driving at Hazelwood Road, Sarsfield Court and Sallybrook, and that she didn’t have a driver’s license. , and the associated number of cases of non-production thereof. All counts refer to the same date, February 11.

No details were given in court about the alleged facts that gave rise to the charges.

The late Sheila Dunne was remembered at her funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church in Glounthaune as someone who had a great sense of pride in her two children Lilley and TJ. Her late husband, well-known local DJ Ted Dunne, died three years ago.
