Katie Zelem: Angel City signs England midfielder after Manchester United departure

English midfielder Katie Zelem has signed for American club Angel City after leaving Manchester United.

Zelem joined United when the women’s team was revived in 2018 and captained the club during the 2019–20 season, helping the club win the FA Cup last season.

She made 161 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 32 goals, but left United when her contract expired in June.

The 28-year-old said her move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club, where she signs a two-year contract, is an “exciting new challenge”.

“The opportunity to compete in the NWSL, one of the most competitive leagues in the world, is a big step in my career,” she said.

“I would like to test myself in a new competition, against top players and at the same time contribute to the success of this ambitious club.”

Zelem was part of the England team that finished runners-up at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and has played twice for the Lionesses in Australia.
