Fabrizio Romano hints at when Man United could announce €70m duo

Man United are set to land Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with his former players.

The Dutch coach worked with the duo at Ajax and with Bayern willing to sell the two players, the Man United manager has been keen to bring them to Old Trafford all summer to bolster his defence.

The Premier League club have agreed a transfer fee for De Ligt worth €45 million plus €5 million in add-ons, while a guaranteed €15 million plus €5 million in add-ons has been agreed for Mazraoui.

Both defenders have signed five-year contracts with Man United, with an option for an additional season. They are expected to undergo their medicals and complete all formal steps on Monday.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Monday will be “Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui day” at Old Trafford and could be the day both players are officially announced as new members of Ten Hag’s squad.

Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is set to join Man United

Will Erik ten Hag create a new Ajax at Man United?

It is difficult to predict whether De Ligt and Mazraoui will be successful at Man United, but it is never a good sign when a big club like Bayern Munich is willing to let players go.

Ten Hag appears keen to work with players he trusts and is keen to add the duo to the former Ajax stars already at Old Trafford. Andre Onana joined the Manchester club last summer, while Lisandro Martinez and Antony followed their Dutch coach to Manchester in 2022.

This doesn’t seem like good business practice, which was evident when Antony’s arrival blew up in the face of the Man United manager.

However, there is still plenty of potential for a positive outcome to the double transfer and Ten Hag seems certain that the Premier League giants desperately need the two players.
