Katerina Siniakova hilariously responds to question of whether she and Tomas Machac would become a couple again

Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac may have won the mixed doubles title together at the Paris Olympics, but the biggest news wasn’t the actual victory, but the fact that they did it after having split.

After starting a relationship in 2020, 23-year-old Siniakova and Machac (28) decided to split as a couple, just before the Olympic Games in Paris.

Of course, that immediately led to the question of whether the two would still play and what that would all look like.

“Yes, that’s true, but this is my private matter. Of course we will play, we are professionals,” Siniakova said before the Olympics.

After keeping their word and playing together, Siniakova and Machac eventually won the gold medal, winning their first three matches in three sets and also beating China’s Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen 6-2 5-7 10-8 in the final.

Siniakova teases reporters: We like it when you’re confused…

After their victory, Siniakova and Machac were asked if they were still in a relationship.

“That’s our private life, so you don’t need to know. We like it when you’re confused,” Siniakova said cheekily.

Machac added: “This is top secret.”

Subsequently, both Siniakova and Machac became more serious, as Siniakova stressed that they were two professional players who had a clear goal in mind.

“We are professionals and we knew we could work together on the pitch, regardless of what had happened before,” Siniakova said.

Machac repeated about the same as Siniakova.

“We wanted to win for our country and we achieved that together,” Machac added.

Siniakova, currently ranked No. 2 in women’s doubles, now has two Olympic titles to her name, having previously won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics with Barbora Krejcikova.

On the other hand, this was Machac’s first participation in the Olympic Games and therefore also his first Olympic medal.
