The US is working to “to manufacture” evidence of doping use and trafficking “the most powerful blow” to the disciplines that Russian athletes have dominated for decades, such as rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming and figure skating, the SVR reported Monday.

The “revelations” shall “scale of monstrous filth” And “spreading elaborate lies” about renowned Russian sports schools and excellent coaches and athletes, it added in a statement.

According to the spy agency, the US is being helped by Grigory Rodchenkov, the disgraced former director of an anti-doping laboratory in Moscow who fled Russia for the US in 2015, and his associate Timofey Sobolevsky, the former director of the Department of Doping Control. The pair are said to have had ties with coaches and doctors involved in the training of Russian athletes. The future “informants” would have been promised “generously compensated” and potential employment in a Western country.

The SVR also noted the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)’s rejection last month of Russia’s appeal against the redistribution of the gold medal it won at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Russian team member Kamila Valieva was accused of doping and her results were disqualified. CAS ruled that Russia’s gold medal should be awarded to the second-placed USA, while third-placed Japan was promoted to silver. The Russian team was demoted to bronze.
