2025 Georgia Tech Target Cam Strong makes college decision

One of Georgia Tech’s 2025 cornerback targets is now off the board and he’s headed to an ACC school other than the Yellow Jackets. Today, Strong chose to commit to NC State over Georgia Tech and West Virginia.

Strong was on an official visit to Atlanta last weekend and was in NC State and West Virginia in the weeks before that. Since his visit to Atlanta, a pair of 247Sports Crystal Balls have been placed to put Strong in Raleigh and that’s what he’s committed to today.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Strong is the No. 667 player in the country, the No. 61 cornerback and the No. 14 player in the state of South Carolina. He plays at TL Hanna High School in Anderson, SC and has other offers from Duke, Michigan State, Tulane, USF and Virginia Tech, among others.

Here are some stats and information on Strong courtesy of 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins:

“Also competes in track and field events. As a sophomore, he recorded a 5-6 performance in the high jump and a 23.69 in the 200-meter dash.

“2023: All-region selection for TL Hanna, who went 10-2 and reached the second round of the South Carolina AAAAA playoffs. 35 total tackles and multiple takeaways.”

While Georgia Tech didn’t land Strong, they got some potentially good news today.

One of Georgia Tech’s top targets has set a date and included the Yellow Jackets among his final five schools.

2025 defensive back Jontae Gilbert today named his final five schools and a commitment date of August 10. The other schools on the final list for Gilbert were Georgia, UCF, Louisville and NC State.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Gilbert is a four-star player, the No. 124 player in the country, the No. 14 defensive back in the country and the No. 16 player in the state of Georgia. Last weekend he was on an official visit to Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech is currently on the recruiting trail and even made a late somersault last night by landing Kamron Cullins on defense to transfer from SMU to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets 2025 class is currently ranked No. 14 on 247 Sports and could move past the top ten if they can continue to achieve some of their top goals.

Here’s a scouting report on Gilbert, as well as some stats and information courtesy of 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins:

“A defensive back with a longer frame and traits worth developing in the long term. Measured just over 6 feet several times in the summer before the junior season and some verified extra length in the arms. Already has represented early at safety and cornerback in the prep career and played both spots while facing respectable competition from Atlanta. Viewed by some coaches as more of a safety on Saturday, but he could be the best fit given the circumstances for an outside role in physical, quick coverage. He has been on tape so far because he is not afraid to use his hands and squeeze out vertical routes. Offers advantages as a run defender as he works to get off blocks to get in and get ball carriers on the ground. Light ball production, but frame is impressive. Top speed is a bit of a question mark though, given the lack of data points. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year impact player for a Power Five program if he can continue to make progress.”

“Also ran track in high school.

“2022: Two-way player for Douglass gets snaps at both DB and WR. Total 54 tackles, 2 PBU and an INT. Helped Astros make Georgia AAA playoffs. Earned all-region honors.”
