Feyenoord 4-4 PSV (4 Aug 2024) Match Analysis

Cup winners Feyenoord defeated national champions PSV Eindhoven on penalties after an eight-goal draw in the Johan Cruijff Shield. With that, the new Dutch season got off to an excellent start on Sunday.

In the traditional season opener, PSV took the lead after just nine minutes, but then had to come back three more times and the score became 4-4.

Three penalties were taken in the match and after the match at the Philips Stadium, which Feyenoord won 4-2 in the shoot-out.

Noa Lang, back from injury after missing the European Championship with the Netherlands, put PSV ahead, but Feyenoord led 2-1 at half-time thanks to a penalty from Santiago Giménez in the 29th minute and a goal from Baas Nieuwkoop in the 33rd minute.

Three minutes after the break, PSV striker Luuk de Jong equalised, but Feyenoord regained the lead when Giménez converted a second penalty after being brought down by PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez just before the hour mark.
