With the return of the Premier League approaching, Phil Foden has been pictured spending the rest of his summer holiday on a fishing lake in Oxfordshire.

After enjoying the most productive season of his career to date, the 24-year-old was a key part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad that reached the final of Euro 2024 in Germany.

While his Manchester City teammates continued their preparations for the upcoming season with a pre-season tour of the United States, Foden enjoyed some down time closer to home.

A series of photos have emerged on social media showing the attacking midfielder and his father spending time fishing for catfish, carp, tench, pike and perch at a lake in the town of Witney.

At the £14-a-day Linear Fisheries venue, the pair posed with a number of prize-winning catches as the younger Foden prepares to return for training on Monday.

When Foden broke into City’s first team as a teenager, he revealed that most of the other players in the dressing room did not share his love of fishing.

“Probably 95% of football guys don’t like it,” he said in 2020.

‘Some people like fishing, so when people find out about it they say, “What a weird sport to do.” They don’t understand why you like it.

“Of course they should try it. I think it’s the perfect hobby to rest your legs and have some free time.”

Foden loves his hobby so much that in 2018 he even missed City’s Premier League title celebrations to go on a pre-planned trip with his father.

Foden’s passion for fishing has clearly remained, despite all the fame and fortune his already illustrious career has brought him.

Earlier this summer, he was spotted fishing from the side of a yacht with his younger brother Logan during a family holiday in Marbella.
