Guard Markelle Fultz remains a free agent during the NBA offseason and reportedly isn’t generating much interest.

Clutch Points’ Brett Siegel reported Thursday that Fultz “hasn’t received much attention in NBA free agency thus far,” though “it would be surprising if he’s not on the list by the start of training camp.”

The 26-year-old has spent the past five seasons with the Orlando Magic, but Siegel noted that the Eastern Conference team had already signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cory Joseph this offseason. That appeared to spell an end to Fultz’s time with Orlando after he played out the final year of his $17 million contract last season.

The top pick in the 2017 NBA draft, Fultz averaged 7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 43 games. It was just the third time in his career that he reached the 20-game mark.

The Washington product missed most of his first two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers due to a shoulder injury before being traded to Orlando.

While healthy in his first full season with the Magic, Fultz tore his anterior cruciate ligament in January 2021, costing him 13 months of action. He played in just 26 games between the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

“I’ve been taking care of my body all season,” he told reporters during the 2022-23 season. “I’ve been taking care of my shoulder and my knee and everything so my body feels great and I feel really good. I think as the season went on, that’s all you guys saw: a young man getting more and more comfortable, confident, self-assured and hungry.”

The Magic have a significant deficit in the backcourt, including Jalen Suggs, Caldwell-Pope, Joseph and Cole Anthony, which has limited Fultz’s cap space in the offseason.

That could lead to Fultz looking for a player who can fill in from the bench during the off-season.
