Sanders is one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. He played for the Lions from 1989 to 1998.

“Over Father’s Day weekend, I experienced a health issue related to my heart,” Sanders wrote in a statement on social media. “It was unexpected and reminded us how important it is to remain vigilant about our physical well-being, even when we are feeling well.

“I am grateful for the wonderful doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who provided me with the care I needed. My family and I are grateful for your prayers and support during this time.”

It appears that Sanders will need some time to heal and recover.

“As recommended by my doctors, I am taking this opportunity to prioritize my health and well-being,” he said. “I appreciate your understanding and continued support.”
