Football party ignites Bisini – Post Courier

FOOTBALL

In another top match last weekend, league leaders Cloudy Bay defeated second-placed Vesubeai Aupa 2-1 in the Division 1 main match on Sunday.

Cloudy Bay, led by stalwart Philip Penunu, got off to an immediate start when Penunu scored from a short cross from the right flank twelve minutes into the game. Not to be outdone, Vesubeai Aupa hit back with an equaliser through Jeff Ora in almost identical fashion within five minutes.

Several attempts on goal by Vesubeai’s Boas Iruna (11) and Kivali Geu (17) went wide. Geu had a chance when he jumped up to send a header that barely cleared the crossbar. Cloudy Bay secured the victory through the evergreen Penunu when a scrimmage in the penalty area in the 77th minute found him with a loose ball that landed in front of him, which he easily tapped past the keeper.

Rapatona defeated Kurti Andra 1-0 in the clash with Manusians through a header from Punjimu Kepiniu three minutes into the match. Rapatona’s Cody Bub (21) had a chance to make his team score but Kurti Andra’s keeper Michael Rasehei was too quick for him with a cross from his right wing. Kurti Andra was simply unlucky when a corner bounced off the far post just before the end of the match, denying them an equalizer.

Keleiruna FC drew 3-3 with a fired up Seadler FC team who came from behind to equalize after being 3-1 down for most of the game. La’a Kini, Raka Ole and Tobias Opi all scored for Keleiruna while Brian Boti, Sebastian Dibon and Pettyshen Elizah also scored for Seadler.

Premiere men

Mungkas FC defeated Blue Kumuls 1-0 in a hard fought match that could have gone either way. Mungkas scored from a corner in the 67th minute that found Timothy Mali, who leapfrogged his opponents and fired the ball past the keeper.

University SC drew 3-3 against a determined Leilam FC. Uni had to play catch-up for most of the match as Leilam was the first to score in the 13th minute, Pansob Gabong, Gabby Vagi in the 18th minute and PJ Josiah in the 47th minute. Uni’s first goal came from an own goal by Leilam’s defense in the 19th minute, followed by goals from Ila Rova in the 31st minute and Richard Alois in the 67th minute.

PS Ruts United defeated Bismarck FC 2-1, while Momase FC defeated FC Genesis 2-0 in the other Premier Division matches.

Women Prime Minister

In the Women’s Premier Division FC Genesis had a great day as they defeated a hapless Erima Fly Over 7-1 with goals from Kelesta Mwawasi – 3, Albina Richard -1, Leilei Roa- 1 and Zanta Baptist -1. Erima FO could only score one goal through Voiel (9). Mwawasi and Richard were excellent as usual and dominated the midfield throughout the game.

Mungkas FC ran over Borders FC with a score of 5-0. Mungkas’ combination of Olive Forova, Rumona Morris and Lisi Robert was too much for the Border girls. Mungkas scored through Olive Forova -1, Angelica Rominai – 1, Lisi Robert -1, Ginimari Wambi -1 and Rumona Morris -1.

PS Ruts United drew 1-1 against Bismarck FC. Bismarck scored twelve minutes into the match after a scrimmage in the PS penalty area when Cloue Devaya (9) jumped on the ball and shot it through the legs of goalkeeper Serah Haro.

Five minutes later, Maria Arisib (12), who was running on the right flank, received a pass from the experienced Miriam Lanta (5) and shot the ball in for the equalizer.

University SC played out a 0-0 draw against the underrated Keleiruna Maidens on Sunday in a match that lacked “enthusiasm, drive, passion and the heart to play football”, according to a university coach.

Keleiruna, on the other hand, played and enjoyed the match as if there was no tomorrow, with goalkeeper Sevese Wapo playing a leading role throughout the match.
