Red Sox SS Makes Embarrassing Blunder Against Yankees

The Boston Red Sox played a crucial inning against the New York Yankees on Saturday, but it could have been even more important if one player had remembered the basics of baserunning.

The Red Sox trailed the Yankees 4-3 in the second inning at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The home team tied the game after the first three batters reached base.

Right fielder Wilyer Abreu stepped to the plate with Ceddanne Rafaela on third and Jarren Duran on second. Abreu flew out to center field for what should have been just one out.

However, the Yankees caught Rafaela sleeping and tagged him out.

Rafaela was busy talking to third base coach Kyle Hudson, who should have been the first to warn the Red Sox infielder to keep his foot on the base.

The Red Sox scored an additional run on an RBI single by Masataka Yoshida before the end of the inning to take a 5-4 lead. But Boston could have potentially scored even more had Rafaela not given up a free out.
