Major update on Mohammed Shami’s comeback and recovery in India during the 2024 World Cup

According to a report by News18, Mohammed Shami’s youth coach Badruddin revealed some positive news. He said Shami has started bowling again and is making good progress towards his return to the Indian team.

“Shami has started bowling. Not with full run-up or full tilt, but has started releasing the ball without any discomfort in the nets. This is a good sign as the bowling activity has started,” Badruddin said.

Since Shami has been out of competitive cricket for six months, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) may first prioritize his return in shorter formats such as T20Is or ODIs. This is a common strategy for players recovering from long-term injuries, allowing them to gradually get back into the game.

It is unclear whether Shami will be ready for the limited tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in July. However, the three T20Is against Bangladesh in October could be a more realistic target for his comeback. The NCA is taking a cautious approach to ensure Shami’s fitness is not compromised, especially given the crucial five-Test series against Australia later this year. Team India’s busy schedule continues after the T20 World Cup. They head straight to Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series starting on July 6. The teams will also compete for the next four matches at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. on July 7, 10, 13 and 14.
