Australian Opals prepare for pre-Olympic tournament

The Australian Opals will take on two of the world’s best women’s basketball nations in the lead-up to the Olympic Games, with games against Spain and Canada on July 23 and 24.

After finishing third at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Would Cup in Sydney, Australia heads to Paris as the third-best team in the world. The Opals are behind the U.S. and China, with Spain and Canada in fourth and fifth place respectively.

The games will be played for the Invitational Cup in Segovia, Spain, and will be an important final opportunity for the team to test their rotations before their Olympic campaign kicks off early next week.

Opals coach Sandy Brondello will represent her country at the Games for the sixth time, four times as a player and twice as a coach.

Star Lauren Jackson will join Patty Mills, Joe Ingles and Andrew Gaze as five-time Olympians after making her debut for the Opals in Sydney in 2000.
