Athena says she is out four to six months due to injury and refuses to leave the ROH Women’s World Championship

Last month, the rumor mill indicated that ROH Women’s World Champion Athena suffered an ankle injury during a Ring of Honor taping, and it was not clear if she would miss ring time as a result. Athena is the self-proclaimed Forever Champion who has held the gold for over 550 days, so this would be a terrible way to end her reign.

The match and injury aired on the May 30 episode of ROH. Follow-up reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that Athena’s injury “is not as bad as feared”, and that she was expected back in the ring “in a few weeks”.

On tonight’s episode (June 20), Athena appeared on crutches and in tears (alongside her minion Billie Starkz) to address her health status. She revealed that she has torn ankle ligaments and will likely miss four to six months. With that in mind, Athena has decided that it would be best for Ring of Honor and the Women’s Division if she…keeps the ROH Women’s Championship around her waist!

After Athena laughed and declared that she would remain champion forever, Queen Aminata and Red Velvet came out to accuse the champion of avoiding them by faking this injury, just as Billie Starkz brilliantly faked a neck injury to save Aminata to defeat and become the first ever ROH sorority. TV Champion.

Starkz responded by giving Velvet a look at the cake, so Red pushed her back, knocking Athena down in the process. Athena screamed in pain as she held her ankle boot, and the commentators didn’t really know what to believe.

What do you think of this Athena injury corner, Cagesiders?
