Texan Volleyball Debuts 2024 Schedule, Regular Season Starts Aug. 30 – The Flash Today Erath County

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Volleyball has announced its 2024 campaign, the team announced Friday.

The Purple and White has released its 2024 schedule, which includes 30 regular-season games (16 conference, 14 non-conference), the Western Athletic Tournament and a scrimmage at Texas Tech to kick things off. Tarleton State will host 12 games in Stephenville, starting with the Tarleton State Invitational on Sept. 20.

“We have a stronger schedule than we’ve seen in general, it will be fun to see how we perform both home and away,” said head coach Mary Schindler. “I believe the pre-season will help us prepare for the track with early opportunities for everyone.”

The Texans will kick off their preparations with a trip to Lubbock, Texas, on August 23, where they will take on the Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m.

On August 30, Tarleton State heads to the Lion Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce, to face Central Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock and A&M-Commerce. The Texans then move on to face St. Thomas, Northern Illinois and Valparaiso in the Tommie Invitational Volleyball Tournament, hosted by St. Thomas in Minnesota, beginning on September 5.

A brief break from tournament play will bring the Purple and White to Lamar on September 10 for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Cardinals. In the 2023 season, the Texans faced the Cardinals on a neutral site in the Roadrunner Classic, sweeping Lamar to finish the weekend 2-1.

The tournament resumes when the Texans head to the Northern Arizona Invitational to take on New Mexico and NAU on Sept. 13.

Tarleton State travels to Louisiana on September 17 at 1 p.m. to face the McNeese Cowgirls for the first time in program history.

The Purple and White close out their tournament schedule and begin their home run as hosts of the Tarleton State Invitational. The Texans will take on Alcorn State, Houston Christian and Louisiana Monroe beginning on September 20. For the home opener, the game with Alcorn State welcomes elementary school students from the community for Education Day, and the closing game against the Huskies welcomes Greek life for opening night at Wisdom. Following the game against ULM, Tarleton State Volleyball will stick around for post-game autographs.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to host a tournament again. It’s always a great feeling to fill our gym,” said Schindler.

The Western Athletic Conference has dropped from 11 volleyball teams in the 2023 season to nine in the 2024 campaign. After UTRGV and Stephen F. Austin opted to move to the Southland, the WAC members now include Tarleton State, Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, Southern Utah, UT Arlington, California Baptist, Seattle U and Grand Canyon. In 2023, the WAC tournament will welcome a total of eight teams, leaving three teams without a postseason appearance.

The Texans open their conference play with two road games. Southern Utah is scheduled to host Tarleton State first, as the Thunderbirds host the Purple and White at 7:30 p.m. CT on Sept. 26. Utah Tech is next in line to take on the Texans with a 2 p.m. CT game on Sept. 28.

On October 1, Tarleton State hosts Nicholls State at 6:00 p.m. for their final non-conference game of the season.

The Texans continue their run in Wisdom with their first home game of the season at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3, when they take on Seattle U. Fans in attendance will receive foam hands while supplies last for their Bloktober-themed game. The Texans are 2-0 over the Redhawks in the 2023 season after sweeping Wisdom and reverse sweeping Seattle.

Next, the Purple and White head to Arlington, Texas to take on the Lady Mavericks on October 5 at 12:00 p.m.

On October 10th, the Texans return to the ‘Ville as Tarleton State hosts Abilene Christian for the I-20 Rivalry with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. The Wildcats vs. Texans game invites all attendees to dress in all things purple in honor of the Purple People Bleeders theme. Last season, the Texans defeated the Wildcats 2-0 after two 3-1 victories for Tarleton State.

Utah Valley will then head to Wisdom for a 1 p.m. meet on Oct. 12. The home game against the Wolverines will offer Texan Volleyball Jersey Koozies to attendees, while supplies last.

The Purple and White head to the West Coast for a date with the Lancers of California Baptist at 9 p.m. CT on Oct. 17. Grand Canyon is up next on Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. CT in Phoenix. In the most recent meeting with the Lopes, Tarleton State defeated GCU in a 3-1 final in the ‘Ville, marking the Texans’ first-ever victory over the Lopes.

Tarleton State hosts Utah Tech on October 26th at 1:00 PM for a pink away game as they play Dig for a Cure. Free pink pom poms will be offered to all fans in attendance, while supplies last.

On October 28, the Texans travel to Abilene for their second regular season meeting with the Wildcats at 6 p.m.

The Purple and White will host the next four games, starting with California Baptist on Halloween at 6 p.m. The “Adult” themed game will offer Halloween ducks to fans in attendance, while supplies last.

The Lopes are next up, meeting at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2 for the Legends Game. The Nov. 7 matchup with Southern Utah starts at 6 p.m. A Throwback Thursday-themed event against the Thunderbirds will offer trading cards to fans in attendance, while supplies last.

The Texans play their final regular season game on November 11 at 6 p.m. against UT Arlington, while honoring seniors on Senior Night.

The final two conference games will be between Tarleton State and Utah Valley, taking on Utah Valley on November 14 at 7:00 PM CT and Seattle U on November 16 at 8:00 PM CT.

The 2024 WAC Volleyball Tournament will be held in Arlington from November 21-23. The 2023 season will see the Texans make their first appearance in the tournament, advancing to the postseason for the first time since becoming a Division I program.

“In the transition period, we went 2-2 against Power 5 opponents, finished above .500 in three of our four seasons and qualified for the WAC Tournament,” Schindler said. “We’ve beaten every team in the WAC at least once during this period. The challenge and focus this year will be to play our best every night.”
