Hungarian Grand Prix set to be one of the hottest races of the year · RaceFans

As the region around the Hungaroring recovers from a heatwave, Formula 1 teams can expect one of the warmest race weekends of the season so far this weekend.

Ambient temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius on all three days, peaking during Sunday’s 70-lap Grand Prix.

A heavy downpour hit the circuit on Wednesday, causing some disruption as the teams set up their facilities in the new Hungaroring paddock. However, the track will be completely dry by the time the action starts tomorrow.

Friday will give teams a good idea of what to expect on race day. Ambient temperatures will already be above 30C as practice begins under sunny skies. However, the afternoon race is expected to bring some cloud, which should take the edge off the track temperatures, which often exceed 50C on this track.

Saturday will be even cloudier, with temperatures not expected to rise much above 30C. However, drivers won’t have to worry about getting their tyres up to temperature in qualifying, as Pirelli will be running its softest rubber this weekend.

Sunday is forecast to be scorching hot all day, with no relief from the sun, which could make this the hottest Grand Prix of the season so far. Temperatures of at least 33 degrees Celsius are forecast on race day, with very little wind.

Monday morning will see some relief from the heat, with a slight chance of rain. Strategists will be watching closely to see if revised forecasts for the coming days indicate that the system could arrive earlier, but as it stands now, it will be a very warm system.
