Jackie Chan Returns for New ‘Karate Kid’ Movie

Cobra Kai has taken several people from the Karate child franchise returns. The incredibly popular sequel series has Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles from the original films to tell an enemies-to-allies story with a new season on the way. However, a new Karate child film stars Jackie Chan, who will reprise his role as Mr. Han.

Now fans want this to be the Karate child universe on Cobra Kai.

Jackie Chan returns for a new Karate child Movie

There were three Karate child films with Ralph Maccio playing Daniel LaRusso and a fourth with Hilary Swank as the new lead, but with Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi still in the lead role. Then, in 2010, a new Karate child film was released starring Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, a new mentor for a young man played by Jaden Smith.

In 2025 a new Karate child movie is coming, and Ralph Macchio will be returning as Daniel LaRusso. Jackie Chan will also be returning in that movie as Mr. Han, and he will be working with Daniel to train the new karate kid (played by Ben Wang). With Macchio playing LaRusso in Cobra Kaifans are excited about a hopeful crossover.

There is also hope that the new season of Cobra Kai something that will lead to the new movie. There is also bad news. The 2025 Karate child movie has nothing to do with Cobra Kaiand the two will not be related at all. In fact, this is not the same Daniel LaRusso who was in Cobra Kai. Not entirely, anyway.

Jackie Chan will not be attending Cobra Kai

The new Karate child film is a Sony production. That means it is in no way affiliated with Cobra Kaiwhich is produced at Netflix.

“That’s a Sony feature, we kind of exist in this universe, so as we wrap up our series, Ralph actually goes out and joins us and films that movie. But our series doesn’t set up the movie,” Cobra Kai showrunner Josh Heald said (via Screen Rant).

He admits that Daniel LaRusso is the same character in the film and in Cobra Kai, but he says it’s in a different part of the world — the Mr. Han part of the story’s universe. This means that the characters and allies that Daniel has in Cobra Kai will not appear in the film.

It also means that Jackie Chan’s Mr Han will not be able to appear in the film. Cobra Kai both. However, that being said, there is still hope that Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce could still show up and finally bring the last piece of the original franchise back together in Cobra Kai.
