Original Plan for Rhea Ripley’s Return

Below are some of the top WWE and AEW news stories from the day, featuring Rhea Ripley and Dustin Rhodes.

• Rhea Ripley returned to WWE programming on RAW last week and will face Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam 2024.

According to PWInsider, the original plan was for Ripley to return to SummerSlam or RAW after SummerSlam, but Ripley felt confident that he could wrestle at the biggest event of the summer, so WWE moved up the plan.

“We’re also hearing that there was initial talk of Ripley returning to storylines at SummerSlam or RAW the day after, but the decision was made to have her vs. Morgan take place at SummerSlam instead, in part because we’re hearing from sources that Ripley said she believed she would be ready for the August event, one of the biggest shows on WWE’s calendar.”

Ripley is not 100% confident at this point and will not be allowed to wrestle again until SummerSlam.

• A fan posted the following on X:

“So, rumor has it that Dustin Rhodes is expected to leave AEW when his contract expires in September 2024.

If this is true, I’m sure Dustin just wants to be with his brother Cody Rhodes or focus on other things like his wrestling school.”

Dustin saw this and replied:

“Wrong! Guys, do better. Yes, my contract is up in September, and no, I am absolutely NOT READY. I have the best matches of my life and hopefully, God willing, I can retire on my own terms, respected with a whole heart. Hopefully the negotiations go well, because I am worth the world, damn it.

The only thing that matters to me is that I take care of my family first, that I finish it when I’m ready and how I see my retirement.

So hang on guys, this business is my life and I love doing it for you guys while still having fun and being able to do it.

#KeepSteppin and thank you all for your continued love and support!”

Dustin last competed on the June 12 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he lost to Jack Perry.
