Tom Aspinall Reveals Three Strange Training Methods To Prepare For Curtis Blaydes Fight At UFC 304

Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has revealed the three unique training methods he has adopted for his rematch against Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall has tapped into his roots as a gypsy traveller for the fight.

Speaking to MMA Hour , the Brit revealed that he watched an Irish documentary about bare-knuckle fighting called Knuckle in 2011. His new training method was inspired by that film. From waking up early in the morning to shadowboxing in hay bales to dousing his knuckles in petrol, Aspinall leaves no stone unturned.

Tom Aspinall plans to go all out against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304

TAspinall has been told by Jon Anik that a win against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 would equate to an undisputed title defense for the Brit. In addition to defending his interim belt, Aspinall has an additional incentive for the fight, as he lost due to a freak injury in his first fight against Blaydes in 2022.

Aspinall is channeling his inner gypsy as he prepares to take on ‘Razor’ in Manchester, following the methods of bare-knuckle legend Joe Joyce. Speaking on the MMA Hour, Aspinall said: “When it’s about 4am, I set my alarm, go outside, do a bit of shadowboxing in the hay bales – and then I do the old traveller method of dousing your knuckles in petrol for about 20 minutes as the sun comes up, and that hardens your knuckles.”

Aspinall then confirmed he wasn’t joking. He said: “These are some of the hardest knuckles in the UFC at the moment… they’re like rocks.”

Tom Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 to win the interim heavyweight title. He has since campaigned for a title unification fight against Jon Jones.

However, ‘Bones’ is injured and is expected to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 when he returns. So Tom Aspinall will face Curtis Blaydes with the interim title on the line again.

Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes’ Form for UFC 304

Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes’ first fight lasted 15 seconds when ‘Honey Badger’ suffered a freak knee injury. The Brit has fought twice since then. After beating Marcin Tybura in 73 seconds in his return, Aspinall knocked out the fearsome Pavlovich in 69 seconds to become interim heavyweight champion.

Blaydes has won one and lost one since the Aspinall bout, suffering a knockout defeat to Pavlovich before returning to winning ways with an impressive performance against the rising Jailton Almeida.

The fight between Aspinall and Blaydes will headline the UFC 304 PPV, which will feature Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title.
