Notes: The British Open returns to Royal Troon for the 10th time. The last time was in 2016 when Henrik Stenson surpassed Phil Mickelson to set a record score of 264 for all major championships. … Six different Americans have won the last six majors, starting with Jon Rahm in the 2023 Masters. … Rahm has not won anywhere in the world since that Masters. He joined LIV Golf late last year. … Scottie Scheffler will attempt to join Tiger Woods as the only player to win the British Open as the world No. 1. … Woods is playing at Royal Troon for the first time since 2004. He has missed the cut in his last two majors. … Arthur Havers, in 1923, became the only British player to lift the claret jug at Troon. … Rory McIlroy has gone 10 years without winning a major. He missed a 30-inch putt at Pinehurst No. 2 and lost the U.S. Open by one stroke. … Royal Troon has the longest (623 yards) and shortest (123 yards) holes in the current British Open rotation.

Richard Mansell had planned to play until he shot 61 to qualify for the British Open. … The winner advances to the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the PGA Championship, but not to the Masters. … Billy Horschel is the only player this year to win an event with a modified field while ranked in the world’s top 100. He was ranked No. 84 when he won in Puerto Rico. … The tournament dates back to 1999. Xiyu “Janet” Lin of China is the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 15. … Stephanie Kyriacou of Australia finished fourth in last year’s Dana Open. That was her best LPGA finish until she finished second last week at the Evian Championship. … Furue now leads the Annika Major Award rankings for best finishes in majors. She finished sixth in the U.S. Women’s Open. None of the other major champions has a top 10 finish in another major.
