Wrestler Ty Erickson wins long-awaited bronze medal at Calgary Stampede

Ty Erickson is now the #4 steer wrestler in the PRCA after battling back from injury to compete at the Calgary Stampede. He’s a world champion and a $2 million cowboy, and up until Championship Sunday, the Calgary Stampede Bronze was one he’d been waiting for.

“This is a great rodeo, you can’t miss it, so I’m so proud to come here and win. I’m just so proud of my horse, he’s worked so well all week. It’s a lot of fun,” Erickson said.

Erickson wasn’t going to let ankle surgery two months ago stop him from making it to the Calgary Stampede, and in the Final Four, horsepower and muscle memory did their work. Erickson’s 4.0 time secured the title by seven-tenths of a second.

“My horse worked great, he gave me a great effort and honestly I just kept going,” he said.

Don Payne finished second, Tyler Pearson finished third and Stetson Jorgensen finished fourth.
