Investor unveils multi-million pound plans for golf and hotel complex

Charjen Capital has been revealed as the buyer of the 200-acre Horsley Lodge Golf Club in Derbyshire, acquiring the 19th century site for an undisclosed sum.

The site is now ready for a multi-million pound transformation, led by Derbyshire entrepreneur Marc Brough.

In the first three months after the purchase, Charjen invested £500,000 in upgrades to the golf course, members areas and hotel accommodation, including refurbishing 14 rooms and creating two new ones.

Plans include applying for planning permission to demolish existing conservatories in the main members building to make way for new restaurants and terraces.

Richard and Malcolm Salt, who built the 18-hole course and restored the series of characterful buildings that now form the clubhouse and a wedding and catering venue, made the decision to sell in September last year.

Charjen has submitted an application to Amber Valley Borough Council, with plans designed by Sigma Architects.

The plans include a high-end brasserie with 85 seats, a fine dining area with 18 seats, a chef’s table for eight people and a private dining area for 22 people.

Marc Brough of Charjen said: “We saw an opportunity to own one of Derbyshire’s best golf courses in a beautiful location and have big plans to improve the golf course itself, as well as to develop the hotel and venue space in a sensitive and sustainable way. way to upgrade.

“We have a three-year strategy to make the most of this vast, beautiful destination, by creating a larger wedding venue, improved facilities for golfers – including a new driving range with simulators – more rooms for guests to stay and of course an elevated dining experience for everyone, to support local producers.”
