PM Narendra Modi shares real story behind India’s victory at T20 World Cup

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly recounted India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 victory while addressing a crowd of enthusiastic Indians in Moscow on Tuesday, in his two-day visit to Russia. Sharing the ‘real story’ of this memorable achievement, PM Modi highlighted how the cricket team’s success embodied the indomitable spirit of young Indians.

India won the T20 World Cup title on June 29 in Barbados, defeating South Africa in a thrilling final. At one point, the match seemed to be slipping away from India as South Africa needed just 30 runs off the final deliveries while chasing a competitive total of 177 on a batting-friendly pitch at Kensington Oval.

However, Rohit Sharma’s men refused to surrender, fighting until the very last ball was bowled. In the decisive final overs, the pace trio of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh stepped up, choking the run flow and helping India secure a 7-run victory to make history.

“Did you celebrate India’s win? Are you proud of it? There’s a story behind it. India’s thrilling T20 World Cup triumph was surely a moment of immense pride and celebration for the nation. The Indian team, driven by an unwavering determination to succeed, never gave up until the very last ball. This victory belongs to those who refused to back down, whose passion and perseverance paved the way to the top.

The spirit of triumph extends far beyond cricket, permeating through various sports as the country’s young athletes continue to reach for greatness. This is not just a cricket story, but a testament to the indomitable spirit of India,” he stated in his speech to the Indian diaspora.

In interim, Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism that India will perform well in the forthcoming Olympics in Paris.
