CANADIAN TEAM

The Canadian women opened their tournament against Chile. It was a very exciting back-and-forth match. It was an even half, but Chile secured the advantage and played a solid defensive game in the second half, limiting Canada’s attacking chances. Chile scored three quick goals in the fourth half to create an impossible lead. Canada’s Kenzie Girgis scored a late Canadian goal to give them some momentum going into the next match. Canada will face Mexico tomorrow with a chance to tie the score at 1-1.

The Canadian men’s team — the young goats — defeated Brazil in the primetime game at 8 p.m. In front of a raucous home crowd, Canada delivered a great performance. Robin Thind continued his scoring prowess by scoring another hat trick, paving the way for a 6-0 victory. It was a solid start to the tournament. Canada will face the U.S. in a game on July 4. It should be an intense battle against a team with its back against the wall.
