Police say the sex abuse suspect has been arrested in Overland Park

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – Overland Park police say a suspect has been arrested following an assault and robbery case that began Tuesday morning.

It happened in the area of ​​W. 97th Street and Reeder.

Police said the arrestee will be transported to the Johnson County Central Booking Facility. The case will then be transferred to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.

On Wednesday evening, Gabriel P. Hernandez of Kansas City, Kansas, was booked into the Johnson County Detention Center on charges of rape. According to the booking log, he was arrested by Overland Park police on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

“I want to thank our community, our department members, along with the Johnson County Crime Lab, the FBI Kansas City Career Criminal Task Force and local media partners for helping us share the information we provided (Tuesday) about this heinous crime, said Chef Doreen Jokerst. “I appreciate the collective efforts of everyone involved to ensure the safety of the community.”

Police said the attack happened around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday at a home near West 97th Circle and Reeder Drive.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
