The mayor of Roff is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) – According to Pontotoc County Undersheriff Arnold Scott, officers have arrested Roff Mayor Darren Braun on a warrant for an incident at Roff Public Schools in October where he allegedly attacked a teacher who was on the crosswalk and his vehicle would have been hit.

“Apparently words were exchanged in a heated manner where he hit her with his car, and you know, she wouldn’t let him through,” Undersheriff Scott said.

Police records show that on Oct. 28, a Roff Elementary teacher was directing crosswalk traffic while students were being released that day, when Braun allegedly stopped and confronted the teacher when he was not allowed to pass.

“To me, this shows total disregard for the safety of students, teachers or parents, and just because you are mayor of Roff does not mean you can be above the law,” Undersheriff Scott added.

Scott says that during the confrontation, Braun allegedly struck the teacher’s hip with the bumper of his vehicle, causing her to lose her balance and stumble.

“More words were exchanged and some swear words were used, and he continued to bump into her until he bumped her quite hard, causing her to lose her balance,” Undersheriff Scott said.

Braun claims the allegations are false, but after officers spoke to two witnesses who saw the incident, Braun was arrested on a warrant and taken into custody.

“He was arrested yesterday around 4 o’clock and taken to Pontotoc Justice Center for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon,” Undersheriff Scott said.

Braun has since posted bail from jail. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
