New Delhi (India), July 3 (ANI): The recently concluded edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be memorable for many reasons, be it the jaw-dropping conditions for bowlers, thrilling thrillers, unforgettable surprises, the rise of cricket in partner nations and finally the fact that Team India ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought.
Many records have been set in the competition, for example in terms of six hits, run rate, bowling economy rate, etc.
Below are some numbers that made this tournament one of the best in a long time.
*7.09 – The overall run rate in the tournament, the lowest at a men’s T20 World Cup. It surpassed the previous low of 7.43 runs per over set in the 2021 edition, played in the UAE, according to ESPNCricinfo.
*517 – The number of sixes smashed in the competition, the first time 500-plus sixes have been hit in the competition, surpassing the previous record of 405 sixes in the 2021 edition. The balls-to-six ratio is also the best ever, at 21.35.
*1- India became the first team ever to win the T20 World Cup without a loss. They won eight matches in a row, three in the group stage against Ireland, Pakistan and USA, three in Super Eights against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia and one each against England and South Africa in the semi-final and final.
*2 – Only the second ICC T20 WC without a single century scored, topped by West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran with 98 against Afghanistan. The last time this happened was in 2009, when Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan top-scored 96 against West Indies in the semi-final.

*19 – A four-wicket haul total, the highest ever in a men’s T20 World Cup, showing the level of bowler dominance in the tournament. The previous best was 14 four-fers in 2021.
*4.17 – Pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s economy rate is the best ever for anyone with 100-plus deliveries bowled in a single edition of T20 WC. Bumrah’s most expensive spell was 1/29 in four overs against Australia.
*3 – The difference between the wickets Bumrah took and the boundaries he conceded during the tournament. While Bumrah took 15 wickets, only 12 boundaries, including two sixers, could be scored against him.
*14 – Number of dismissals by Rishabh Pant as wicketkeeper, including 13 catches and a stumping. It is the most ever by a wicketkeeper in a single edition of the men’s T20 WC.
*17 – Wickets for Arshdeep Singh and Fazalhaq Farooqi in this World Cup, the most by a bowler in a single edition of the competition, surpassing the record of 16 set by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga in 2021.
*1 – Rohit Sharma is the first ever player to win the competition both as a player (in 2007) and as captain this year. West Indies’ Daren Sammy has won the title twice as captain, in 2012 and 2016, and several players were part of those two victories, including Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Dwayne Bravo, Samuel Badree, Andre Russell and Denesh Ramdin.
*0- Sixes were scored in the match between New Zealand and Uganda. This is only the third match in the Men’s T20 World Cup in which no sixes were scored. Other matches include South Africa vs Zimbabwe in Hambantota in 2012 and Netherlands vs Pakistan in Perth in 2022.
*171 – Pant’s runs scored during the competition are the second-most in a single edition without a single fifty, behind Bangladesh’s Anamul Haque, who scored 184 runs in the 2014 edition with a best score of 44*. Pant’s best score was 42 against Pakistan.
*96 – Most balls bowled by veteran Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir in this World Cup without conceding a six. Amir has achieved the unique feat of becoming the first bowler not to hit a six in two different editions of the Men’s T20 World Cup (minimum of ten overs). Notably, he bowled 139 balls without conceding a six in 2010, the second-most by a bowler in one edition after Umar Gul’s 147 in 2009. (ANI)
