Blu Girls Shock Kiwis in Canada Cup – Tempo – The fastest growing newspaper in the country

By MARK REY MONTEJO

The Philippine Blu Girls sent out a stern warning by stunning New Zealand 5-1 at the 2024 Canada Cup International Softball Championship on Tuesday, July 2 (Manila time).

With a loud bat, the Nationals broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with a four-run streak, finally taking the fight to the Kiwis and securing perhaps the biggest win of the day.

New Zealand attempted to flip the script but failed as the Philippines already had a comfortable lead – thanks to a rock-solid defence for an exciting start in Pool A (Red) of the 12-team event.

The team led by Ana Santiago will play Hong Kong in the afternoon and Canada later on Wednesday, July 3 (Manila time).

The Blu Girls will need to work on their defense in particular to have a chance at a surprise victory.

The Canadians are on a roll and won their first two games as expected.
