Burgum discusses Energy Czar rumors as Trump picks Noem to lead Homeland Security

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – President-elect Donald Trump continues to fill Cabinet positions for his second administration. On Tuesday, Trump chose South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as secretary of homeland security.

Noem has reportedly expressed support for Mr. Trump’s immigration policies and defended other Republican governors in their efforts to crack down on migrants in their states.

Trump is also expected to appoint Sen. Marco Rubio as secretary of state, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum could be considered for a Cabinet position.

Governor Burgum has been involved with Mr. Trump since he endorsed the president-elect in January and was even a top choice to become vice president. It has now been suggested that he will be Minister of Energy or Energy Czar.

Burgum said there are a number of talented people who want to serve in this administration. He also said that the transition team is overloaded with requests. Burgum was asked what the term ‘energy czar’ would mean to him if he were elected.

“The Secretary of Energy is focusing on hydrogen and nuclear, all important things, but oil and gas are over at DOE, EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management. There are about ten agencies,” said Burgum.

Burgum said everything previously released in the press about this position was trial balloons that did not specifically relate to him. He said he thinks it reflects the ideas that have been talked about, which is that you can’t solve this country’s energy problems with just one position.

Senator Kevin Cramer is also an ally of President-elect Trump. He said Governor Burgum is in a good place and he has all the power to choose what position he would like, assuming he wants to be in the Cabinet.
