Nintendo repeats Switch 2 announcement window – here’s what we know

Forget the upcoming PS5 Pro release for a moment: we’ve got some new Nintendo Switch 2 news to dive into. Sort of.

Anyone who has been following the rumors surrounding the Nintendo Switch successor knows that Spring 2025 was until recently touted as a release date for Switch 2.

The edition The date may still be up in the air, but following the release of Nintendo’s latest earnings report (h/t Eurogamer), we’ve learned that the company is still is planning announce the new console before the end of the fiscal year.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed in an earnings call after publication that the new console will still be unveiled (in some form) in late March 2025.

But other than that, we’re still no closer to learning about this mysterious new console. We have learned nothing new about the machine itself, only that we will have seen it within the next five months.

What does this mean for Switch 2?

The big takeaway here is that we won’t get an official glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever the console is called) before the end of this year.

Now I would Love for Nintendo to prove me wrong and start teasing the next console straight away tomorrow, but with a few more Switch games on the horizon – including Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake – and the upcoming Black Friday and holiday sales busy, it feels like a reveal probably won’t happen until January.

That’s a sentiment shared by industry analysts such as Toyo Securities’ Hideki Yasuda. Commenting on the news that Nintendo Switch sales will fall short of expectations this quarter (as shared by Reuters), he said: “Making an announcement this year has become quite difficult… You wouldn’t want to divert attention to an upcoming console in the coming years. in the middle of the critical end-of-year shopping season.”

Chances are we’ll still be surprised by more news, as Nintendo has remained as unpredictable as ever lately. I can’t be the only one who felt blindsided by the launch of both the Nintendo music app and the bizarre announcement of the strange Alarmo project, right?
