MJF pays tribute to the NHL team at Forbidden Door

Not only was it fight night for MJF at AEW Forbidden Door, but it was also hockey night as he tipped his cap to a certain NHL team.

MJF started AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in his booked match against Hechicero and “The Wolf” ultimately emerged victorious against the CMLL star.

Being on Long Island, MJF was in full babyface mode, dressed in New York Islanders gear, and took a moment to crowd surf with his people. His match became even more memorable for him when he and Hechicero kicked off the PPV. MJF secured the win with a brainbuster.

From a story perspective, MJF has been a busy man since returning to AEW Double Or Nothing. Despite his heel attitude, MJF is a babyface who was despised by the enemies of his past, but he hasn’t been afraid to speak his mind to anyone and everyone.

Last Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, he and Daniel Garcia seemingly furthered a friendship with what seemed to culminate in a match at All In between the two, but Will Ospreay had a great time for Max. Ospreay decided to give Garcia a shot at his AEW International gold next week at Summer Break 3. Not only that, but Will was so confident in the outcome at Forbidden Door that ‘Billy Goat’ also offered Daniel a shot at the world title after defeating Swerve. Strickland at Forbidden Door. This apparently caused tension between MJF and Ospreay, possibly foreshadowing the fact that they may be the two to play a match against each other at Wembley Stadium.

Many fans may find that Max’s match against Hechicero at Forbidden Door felt disappointing in the build-up, as it was suddenly thrown together without any real story behind it. Hechicero has recently made the transition when he joined Brian Cage and The Gates of Agony.
