Polling stations and advice for voters ahead of election day

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Tomorrow is Election Day and Pima County officials are not only encouraging people to vote, but also offering some tips on how to be the most time-efficient when heading to the polls, starting with early voting.

“If you want to avoid all those wait times, your best bet is to go to an early voting place,” said Gabriella Cázares-Kelly, a voice actress from Pima County.

However, Cázares-Kelly said some locations, such as the downtown Tucson voting location, had hour-long lines.

Pima County Communications Director Mark Evans told 13 News they expect about 10-20% of Pima County voters to come out on November 5.

With one of the longest voting rounds he has seen in decades, Evans said the voting process could take longer, which could impact wait times.

“It used to take voters 10 minutes to vote, now it might take 15 minutes,” Evans said.

More than 300,000 voters in the county cast ballots early, according to the Pima County Recorders Office.

Cázares-Kelly said when it comes to early voting wait times, she hopes voters communicate with their bosses to ensure they can take time off to vote early or on Tuesday.

“Making the choice between their work and participation in one of our most fundamental rights in our democracy should not be up for debate,” she said.

When it comes to Election Day, Evans said having a plan is the best way to be efficient.

He also advises voters to study their sample ballots so they can speed up the voting process.

Anyone needing polling places can go to Pima County website.

“It’ll tell you, oh, at this voting center there’s a 25-30 minute wait,” Evans. “Well, if you find another voting center nearby and it says it’s a five minute wait, maybe go there and you know you won’t have that much time to wait.”

Evans added that as long as you are in line by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, you can vote.

He also asked everyone to be patient with the results as it will take a few days to process all the ballots.
