Mediation efforts fail for women involved in roadside arguments

October 30, 2024

KINGSTON, Jamaica – An attempt to resolve a dispute between a woman and her husband’s niece through mediation Tuesday proved unsuccessful and the case was sent back to court.

Julia Edwards and Corey-Ann Morgan, who live in the same community, are currently before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court charged with assault following an altercation on October 6, 2024.

Both parties were reportedly walking along a roadway when they became involved in a heated argument during which expletives were exchanged. Morgan is accused of hitting Edwards during the argument, while Edwards is accused of pushing Morgan in the chest.

Edwards is charged with common assault, while Morgan is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

When the case went to trial on Tuesday, Parish Court Chief Chester Crooks referred both parties for mediation, but the intervention effort did not lead to a resolution.

They will appear in court again on December 16. Their bail has been extended.

Both sides were warned not to interfere with each other.
