Following in the footsteps of his father, Freddie Flintoff, young Rocky Flintoff showed his extraordinary talent with a stunning century on his England U19 debut earlier this week.

Eager to make his own name, the 16-year-old cricketer delivered a match-winning performance against a Young Lions Invitational XI.

Young Rocky Flintoff shone with 106 in England U19’s victory

Rocky’s innings started under pressure, with England in a sorry position at 52-4. Both openers were lost within the first five overs and the country was chasing a challenging score of 288.

Unfazed by the uphill battle, Rocky teamed up with Charlie Allison to post an impressive 81-run stand, steadying the innings.

Young Flintoff, representing Lancashire, showed great maturity, hitting eight fours and three sixes in his superb 106 from just 111 balls. His innings showcased not only his technical brilliance but also his mental strength, qualities reminiscent of his father’s legendary career.

Rocky’s dismissal left England needing just 14 runs for victory. Harry Moore and Tazeem Ali held their nerve to guide the team home and recorded a two-wicket win.

Rocky’s stellar performance was watched by his mother, Rachael, while his father, Andrew Flintoff, was away coaching the England team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The tournament ended with a 68-run defeat to India in the semi-final on Thursday.

Adding to the cricketing legacy story, Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, also made headlines with his 85 from 83 balls for the Lions. Despite his best efforts, including claiming two wickets, the Lions could not avoid defeat.

The match was a prelude to the three-match series between England and Sri Lanka, which starts in Chelmsford on Friday.

It’s worth noting that Rocky earned his England selection after scoring a century against Warwickshire in April for Lancashire’s 2nd XI, where he played with his older brother, Corey, 18.
