Arrest after Monday standoff in Anoka

The Anoka Police Department shared information Monday about their involvement in a standoff.

According to the department, police were called to the 2100 block of Branch Avenue for what was later determined to be a domestic assault.

As police began investigating the incident, the suspect ran into a home and barricaded himself. It was also believed he was armed or had access to a weapon.

Police said they began negotiating with the man but said he refused to leave, prompting Anoka County SWAT members to render assistance.

After negotiations remained ineffective, police said a search warrant was requested and approved, allowing SWAT members to enter the home.

A K9 unit assisting the search later helped find and apprehend the suspect, who was hiding in an attic.

The suspect was treated for minor injuries and booked on multiple charges, including assault.
