When Bronny and LeBron James will share the court on opening night

The Los Angeles Lakers open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, and all eyes will be on Bronny and LeBron James as they look to make history as the first father-son duo to share the court in an NBA game.

While head coach JJ Redick has been non-committal about Bronny taking part in Thursday’s game, which makes sense considering he’s a second-round rookie who won’t be in the Lakers’ rotation, it’s expected that the James family their moment to basically get it out of the way and focus on the rest of the season.

As Brian Windhorst reported on ESPN’s Get Up, this is expected to happen Tuesday early in the second quarter:

“The big story tonight on Opening Night is here in Los Angeles, where I think we’re going to see a historic moment with LeBron and Bronny James. The Lakers aren’t saying for sure, but they’ve shown their hand a bit now that Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. are guests here tonight at Nike. This is a big thing for LeBron. I would expect that as long as the game goes well, you’ll be in your seat at the start of the second quarter. Then JJ Redick did this in the preseason to start the second quarter, and the coach, I know it’s his debut, but he’s completely leaning into this. He understands how this moment energizes LeBron. And boosting LeBron is good for the Lakers. Forget everything else.”

The score and how the Lakers play could determine how this plays out, but it appears Bronny will step in for the Lakers at the start of the second quarter and play alongside LeBron for a few minutes before Redick returns to his normal rotations for the remainder . of the game.

Considering that the Lakers need to get off to a good start this season, the hope is that this moment won’t impact their chances of beating a strong Timberwolves team. Either way, it seems like it’s best for all parties involved to get it out of the way and not let it linger and become a storyline.

Ken Griffey Jr. & Sr. to watch Bronny and LeBron James make history

Fathers and sons have played together a few times in sports history, most recently Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. in Major League Baseball.

The Griffeys have been looking forward to this moment for a while now, and they’re ready to make good on their promise to Bronny and LeBron James by attending the Lakers’ game against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

“I’m actually going to the game and I’m going to bring my dad,” Griffey Jr. said. “First father and son to play baseball, now the first father and son to play basketball, so it’s a big deal for my dad and me to be there. We made history, now we can look at history.”
