Arkansas gas prices are rising as the national average falls

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – While the rest of the country saw average gas prices drop, motorists in Arkansas saw a small jump at the pump.

According to a survey of 1,826 stations in the Natural State, GasBuddy.com said average gas prices in Arkansas rose 5.1 cents per gallon last week to $2.82.

That’s 4.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, but still 28.9 cents per gallon less than last year.

Meanwhile, the national average fell 3.3 cents per gallon to $3.13.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributed the national price drop to a drop in oil prices after Iran’s attack on Israel and sources said Israel agreed not to attack Iran’s oil infrastructure.

“As the potential for an attack on Iran’s oil infrastructure diminishes as a result, the risk calculus for oil diminishes, and as continued economic weakness in China creates bearish sentiment, oil prices are back below the Down $70 a barrel. the door for a longer decline and possibly a return to the national average,” says De Haan.

He hopes the downward trend will continue and expects the national average to fall below $3 per gallon for the first time since 2021.
