Fundraiser set up to support Rockford firefighter injured in ‘terrible accident’

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Nearly $50,000 has been raised through GoFundMe to support the family of a firefighter injured in an accident.

Richie Macias suffered a traumatic brain injury on October 12, according to organizers of the online fundraiser. He is reportedly sedated and on a ventilator in a neurological intensive care unit in Madison.

The Rockford Fire Department shared the GoFundMe to help the Macias family as he recovers.

To date, more than 400 people have donated to the fundraiser, surpassing the $25,000 goal.
