Former WVU WR forced to wear Pitt gear after losing bet

It’s been a few weeks since the 106th Backyard Brawl, but for those deeply involved in the rivalry, it’s never too late (or too early) to brag about a win.

Former Pitt cornerback Jason Pinnock made a bet with former West Virginia wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton before the Backyard Brawl earlier this season, and it resulted in Ford-Wheaton having to don Pitt gear.

Pinnock documented the moment on Instagram on Thursday, with Ford-Wheaton wearing a Pitt zip-up and hat while someone held a Pitt t-shirt next to him.

“I’m a few weeks late, but… H2P!!”

Pinnock and Ford-Wheaton are now both with the New York Giants in the NFL, with Pinnock serving as the starting cornerback and Ford-Wheaton as the backup wideout, but only BFW has been involved in the Brawl.

And it’s hard to forget Ford-Wheaton’s only matchup.

Ford-Wheaton played well against Pitt in the Brawl, until the end of the fourth quarter. He isn’t remembered for his 97 yards and two touchdowns; he is remembered for the pass that bounced out of his hands.

Pitt and West Virginia were tied at 31 with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter when former WVU quarterback JT Daniels made a shotgun blast on the Mountaineers’ 39. He fired a pass to an open Ford-Wheaton, who had a first down, but could only watch as the football bounced from Ford-Wheaton’s hands into Devonshire’s.

Devonshire did the rest, racing 56 yards back to the end zone for a game-winning touchdown.

Ford-Wheaton has not recorded any stats for the Giants this season. Pinnock, on the other hand, is in the middle of his second season as the Giants’ starting cornerback. In four games this season, he has collected 21 tackles (14 solo), three tackles for loss, three sacks and a pass breakup.

Pinnock has recorded 163 tackles (117 solo), 11 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, five forced fumbles, a recovery and 11 pass breakups.
