Here’s what you need to know about the weather

A heat wave baked parts of Southern California last weekend, but expect cooler temperatures and some fog during the X Games in Ventura.

Highs are expected to remain in the mid-70s or slightly cooler at the beach Friday, the first day of competition at the coastal Ventura County Fairgrounds. Temperatures could rise a few more degrees this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

By Sunday, highs could reach triple digits elsewhere, but are expected to remain in the high 70s near the Ventura coast.

For a second year, the X Games will bring some of the biggest names in skateboarding, BMX and Moto X to the city. The events take place on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 10pm and on Sunday from 9am to 4.30pm.

“There may be some clouds near the coast,” said Ariel Cohen, meteorologist in charge at the agency’s Oxnard office. “They will likely clear at least partially later today.”

The area could also see some windy conditions, but not much wind. Expect about 5 mph to 10 mph winds with occasional gusts up to 15 mph, Cohen said.
