Trump’s anti-Harris remarks overlook how badly she ‘humiliated’ him: Joe Scarborough

Visiting key battleground states in late September, 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump angrily railed against his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, attacking her as “mentally impaired.”

Trump told a crowd of supporters in Wisconsin, “Kamala is mentally impaired. If a Republican did what she did, that Republican would be impeached and removed from office, and rightfully so, for high crimes and misdemeanors…. Joe Biden became mentally impaired. Kamala was born that way… And if you think about it, only a mentally disabled person could have allowed this to happen to our country.”

At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Trump said of Harris, “She’s a stupid person. I don’t care.”

But during a Monday morning, September 30 broadcast, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough argued that Trump’s anti-Harris remarks were laughable in light of how badly she “beat” and “humiliated” him during their September 10 presidential debate in Philadelphia.

On “Morning Joe,” Scarborough told co-host Mika Brzezinski and MSNBC’s John Heilemann, “If she were so, quote, ‘stupid,’ if she were so, quote, ‘mentally impaired’ — if she were so, quote, ‘ mentally disabled’ — why did she destroy him in a debate for 90 minutes, humiliate him and beat him so badly that he refuses to debate her even on Fox News?

The Never Trump conservative and former GOP congressman continued, “And if she’s had this mental condition since birth, then why did he give her thousands of dollars in 2014 for her political campaign when she was running for the United States Senate?”

Heilemann interjected that many of Trump’s recent speeches have been “just extraordinarily racist.”

Predicting an increasingly “brutal race-based assault” on Harris and her supporters from Trump, Heilemann told Scarborough and Brzezinski, “If you go through his comments about where the corruption is…. they happen to be places like Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Cleveland… “every one of them a major urban center in America that’s marked, especially in their base’s mind, as being overrun by people of color.”
