Doping issue Jannik Sinner divides tennis

WADA has announced the appeal against the ITIA verdict Jannik Sinner’s doping issuepositive result for Clostebol in a test conducted this year in Indian Wells.

A decision that has clearly divided the opinions of the media, insiders, tennis players, former tennis players and fans, as the Italian risks a disqualification of 1 to 2 years.

“The World Anti-Doping Agency confirms that on Thursday, September 26, it filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, who will be released by an independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). of fault or negligence because she tested positive twice for Clostebol, a banned substance, in March 2024. WADA considers that the finding of ‘no fault or negligence’ is incorrect under the applicable rules and is therefore WADA does not seek any disqualification for any outcome other than that already imposed by the first tribunal predisposition. As the matter is now pending before CAS, WADA will make no further comment this time,” the World Anti-Doping Agency wrote in a statement.

Awaiting further scenarios on this issue, said the president of the Italian Tennis Federation Angelo Binaghi analyzed WADA’s decision.

“We have great confidence in the CAS, which will have to put an end to the case, as Sinner not only has the evidence of the facts on his side, but also the acquittal by three independent bodies. I am sure that the only effect of the Wada call will be positive, because it will confirm the boy’s innocence and put an end to this affair once and for all, giving us back a champion in complete peace” , he said.

Former Italian tennis player Paolo Bertolucci clearly sided with his young compatriot, saying: ‘I firmly believe that Sinner is innocent. Although there can never be certainty, I find his version completely logical, which was also confirmed to me by insiders. Now the CAS will decide, but the only thing I find disturbing in all of this is that we are talking several weeks to five to six months to decide whether Sinner is guilty. A very long time, even Italian processes take less time. It is not right to hold a tennis player. Holding back an athlete for so long is ridiculous, it means killing him. But I also remain optimistic because there is a precedent from the José Luis Palomino case.”

Among Sinner’s main opponents in this affair is of course Nick Kyrgios. The Australian repeatedly attacked his Italian counterpart during the US Open and after WADA’s call was made official, he doubled down by writing a very explicit post.

“Hahahaha, maybe he’s not so innocent after all,” he wrote.

Nick causes controversy with several attacks aimed at Jannik. Just a few days ago, Kyrgios joked on social media that Sinner was the victim of this whole situation, naturally adding a clown emoji next to it and making fun of the whole affair.
